More than just a running camp, this five day "running retreat" is an educational and inspirational experience designed to develop you as a COMPLETE runner.


As we run, eat, and live together, surrounded by the magical red rock formations of Sedona, you will be immersed in aspects of training that are essential to becoming a stronger, faster, and mentally-tough competitor:
  • Explore the mind/body connection critical to successful training and racing
  • Delve into the mental mindset of a champion ultra runner, and glean tips and mental strategies from which any runner can benefit
  • Learn how functional strength and movement-based training is essential for optimal performance, and how to incorporate it into your running schedule
  • Explore the power of connecting the conscious and subconscious minds for enhanced personal and athletic wellness
  • Enjoy breakout sessions in yoga and visualization
  • Learn nutrition best practices for pre race, during, and post race
  • Experience trail runs in the beautiful mountains of Sedona right out the door of the resort.

23rd Annual Zane Grey 50 Mile Endurance Run - April 21, 2012

The Sedona retreat is the ideal lead-in to this legendary ultra run to be held April 21, 2012. Host Debbie Livingston is competing in the race. If you are already registered for this challenging event, the retreat in Sedona is the perfect venue to help you cap your physical conditioning, shore up your mental game, and share an uplifting event with other runners. What a fantastic way to wrap up your training!

The Zane Grey Highline Trail 50 Mile run is one of (if not the most) difficult 50 mile race in the country. It is an advanced degree run for experienced ultrarunners. Coach Al Lyman

Coach Al LymanCoach Al is the owner/founder of Pursuit Fitness, LLC, a nationally-recognized coaching company for endurance athletes, where he has been coaching athletes of all ability levels from novice to elite, since 1999.

He is also the coach of the reigning 45-49 Age-Group Ironman World Champion and course record holder, Lisbeth Kenyon, as well as Grindstone 100 champion, Debbie Livingston.


Besides being certified by USA Triathlon, USA Cycling, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), the American Swim Coaches Association, and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research (Fitness Specialist), Coach Al is also certified as:
  • Functional Movement Screen provider (FMS)
  • USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sport Performance Coach
  • HKC certified Kettlebell instructor
  • Clinical Gait Analysis by Medical Motion, a subsidiary of Sports Motion, Inc.
As an athlete, Coach Al is a 25-time marathon finisher with a personal best of 2:39 at the Boston Marathon, and a nine-time Ironman Triathlon finisher, including three finishes at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.



Debbie Livingston

Debbie Livingston is a passionate trail runner. She balances her athletics while managing a household with two young children. She is an expert on the subjects of running and pregnancy and running and children. She has finished more than 30 ultra-marathons and 75 trail races since her first off-road race in 1999.

She was the New England Grand Tree Trail Running Series champion from 2001-2008. In 2011, she won five ultra-marathons, including the Grindstone 100, the Laurel Highlands Ultra (77 miles), and the Lookout Mt. 50 Mile Trail Race. She has run the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), Javelina Jundred, White River 50, North Face Endurance Challenge Bear Mt., NipMuck Trail Marathon, and many other classic races.

She has a Master’s degree in Fitness Management from the University of Connecticut and a BS in Health and Fitness from Springfield College. She is also an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). She holds certifications from Kripalu Yoga and the Physical Mind Institute of Pilates. She has taught yoga for 12 years and Pilates for 5 years.

Debbie is enthusiastic about environmental stewardship and has been on the Board of Advisors of the Appalachian Mountain Club since 2004. She is the long-time race director of the Soapstone Mt. Trail Race, and is past president of the Shenipsit Striders.  Learn more about Debbie at her website.
